You will lead risk and control initiatives, oversee management reporting, and coordinate strategic projects while gaining exposure to investments and system transformation initiatives.
Role Overview
This is a rare opportunity to join high impact insurance company the Finance Manager - a 2IC to the Head of Finance in an organisation where every financial decision directly impacts community affordability and resilience. You'll coordinate core finance operations including statutory and management reporting, budgeting, and Board/ELT materials, while leading the business performance function delivering critical insights to executive leadership. Working alongside two qualified Financial Accountants, you'll lead month-end processes in an environment that values quality over volume, low transaction frequency but high consequence.
Beyond BAU, you'll strengthen finance controls and risk management as the organisation matures from rapid growth. You'll lead risk and control uplift, engage with external stakeholders, support investment portfolio management, and shape recommendations on transformational projects including potential ERP transition, automation, and agentic AI initiatives. Responsibilities
- Strengthen risk, control, and governance practices, document processes, address audit findings, and ensure compliance.
- Oversee the month-end processes.
- Coordinate and contribute to monthly management packs, business performance dashboards, and commentary for Board and Committee reporting.
- Support finance transformation initiatives, including organisational growth and system enhancements.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and investment portfolio management, liaising with other teams and investment managers.
- Engage with internal stakeholders to integrate finance inputs into business initiatives.
- Support external stakeholders, including auditors and service providers.
- Participate in system change projects, automation opportunities, and AI initiatives, providing finance insight and recommendations.
- Act as a trusted partner to the Head of Finance, stepping in to resolve complex finance issues as required.
Candidate Profile
You are a highly proactive finance professional with a strong core finance and accounting background, CA or CPA qualified, and a tertiary degree in Finance, Business, or Commerce. You have experience in financial reporting, budgeting, risk and control, and system transformation is highly desirable.
You are an effective communicator with leadership qualities that enable you to influence and lead discussions across stakeholders without direct reports. Analytical, detail-oriented, and strategic, you are comfortable assessing risk exposure, identifying process improvements, and providing clear recommendations. You thrive in environments with strong self-accountability and where the work that you do is highly visible and impact creating.
