Role Overview
Reporting into the CFO, this Senior Finance Manager takes ownership of financial performance, reporting and commercial decision-support across a national industrial supplies and wholesale distribution operation. On a daily basis, you will provide commercial guidance and financial advice to branch managers, sales and procurement stakeholders, ensuring timely and accurate management of business performance. You will oversee performance reporting across sales, margin and operational KPIs, ensuring risks and opportunities are surfaced promptly. On a monthly basis, you will lead business reviews with senior leadership, drive month-end close processes including journals, reconciliations and variance analysis, and deliver commercial insights that directly inform strategic decision-making.
Beyond the numbers, this role is about embedding yourself as a genuine commercial partner to the business. You will analyse product category performance, supplier agreements and pricing strategy, support major customer tenders and drive margin improvement across the branch and warehouse network. You will develop and maintain financial models, oversee inventory governance and work closely with procurement to optimise buying outcomes. You will also lead and mentor a small team of finance professionals, champion finance transformation initiatives and support strategic projects that shape the future direction of the business.
Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Oversee weekly and monthly performance reporting including sales, margin and operational KPIs.
- Lead monthly business reviews, highlighting risks, opportunities and performance drivers for senior stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end close including journals, reconciliations and variance analysis.
- Develop and maintain financial models to evaluate business scenarios, investment opportunities and pricing strategies.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal control requirements.
Commercial Finance & Business Partnering
- Support the CFO in driving commercial strategy and profitability improvement initiatives, including pricing and procurement projects.
- Partner with Branch Managers, Sales and Procurement teams to improve margin performance through stronger processes and controls.
- Analyse product category performance, supplier agreements and rebate structures to identify margin opportunities.
- Provide insights on pricing strategy, trade customer behaviour and sales trends to support commercial decision-making.
- Support major customer tenders, contract pricing negotiations and strategic account management.
Operational Finance
- Oversee financial performance of warehouse and branch operations, ensuring costs and margins are tracked and reported accurately.
- Support inventory management governance including stock turns, aged stock and valuation.
- Analyse logistics and delivery costs to identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce waste.
- Work closely with procurement to optimise supplier terms and improve buying outcomes across the business.
Leadership & Transformation
- Lead and mentor a small team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Champion finance transformation initiatives, including automation, system enhancements and process improvements.
- Support and lead strategic projects including new branch integrations, product range expansion and customer growth initiatives.
Candidate Profile
You are a CA or CPA qualified finance professional with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a commercial finance or business partnering environment. Your background in industrial supplies, wholesale distribution, FMCG or a similarly complex, high-volume industry has equipped you with the commercial acumen and analytical depth to hit the ground running in this role.
You are a confident communicator who knows how to engage and influence senior stakeholders, translating financial complexity into clear business language. Your modelling skills, experience with pricing and margin analysis, meticulous attention to detail and continuous improvement mindset set you apart. Above all, you thrive in a fast-paced environment where your work has real, visible impact on the business. Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle will be highly regarded.
