Supporting a high-volume payroll function, you will be responsible for delivering accurate payroll services while ensuring compliance with Australian payroll legislation, Awards, Enterprise Agreements and company policies.

Working as part of an experienced payroll team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to payroll process improvements, support ongoing systems initiatives and build strong relationships across HR, Finance and operational teams.

Role Overview:

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end processing of payroll across multiple business units and employee groups. This role requires a highly organised payroll professional who thrives in a deadline-driven environment and takes pride in delivering exceptional accuracy and customer service.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include processing weekly and fortnightly payrolls, maintaining employee records, interpreting Awards and Enterprise Agreements, calculating complex payroll entitlements, responding to payroll enquiries and ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements. You will also work closely with HR and Finance to support employee lifecycle changes, payroll reconciliations, reporting, month-end activities and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • End-to-end processing of weekly and/or fortnightly payroll for a large employee workforce.
  • Process new starters, terminations and employee contract changes.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records and master data.
  • Calculate and process overtime, shift penalties, allowances and loadings.
  • Process annual leave, personal leave, long service leave, parental leave and other employee entitlements.
  • Interpret Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements and employment contracts to ensure accurate payments.
  • Process payroll adjustments, back pays and retrospective salary increases.
  • Calculate PAYG tax, superannuation and salary sacrifice deductions.
  • Process employee reimbursements and payroll-related deductions.
  • Reconcile payroll prior to payment and identify discrepancies.
  • Prepare payroll journals and assist with month-end financial reporting.
  • Support payroll reconciliations and general ledger balancing.
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees, managers and internal stakeholders.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with Fair Work legislation, payroll tax and statutory obligations.
  • Assist with Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting and end-of-financial-year payroll activities.
  • Support payroll audits and maintain accurate payroll documentation.
  • Liaise closely with HR regarding employee movements, remuneration changes and leave balances.
  • Assist with payroll system upgrades, testing and process improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and improve efficiencies.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information.

Candidate Profile:

You are an experienced Payroll Officer with proven experience managing end-to-end payroll within a medium to large organisation. You have a strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and enjoy working in a collaborative, high-volume environment where accuracy and attention to detail are essential.

You will have experience interpreting Awards and Enterprise Agreements, processing complex payroll calculations and resolving payroll queries with professionalism and efficiency.

Experience using payroll systems such as Chris21, Micropay, SAP, Dayforce, Workday, Aurion, Preceda, Employment Hero or similar platforms will be highly regarded, along with strong Microsoft Excel skills.
