Job Description
Role Highlights
This is a rare opportunity for a high-performing plumbing industry professional to join a supportive, people-first environment where trade and market knowledge is genuinely valued. The role will suit someone with deep trade and market knowledge who wants to translate hands-on, practical expertise into product strategy, working at the intersection of commercial insight, technical data and AI-driven analysis.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Head of Product, this Technical Trade Consultant will play a pivotal role in shaping the product strategy of a well-established water filtration business. You will take ownership of the product lifecycle management process, acting as the commercial filter through which technical data becomes actionable product strategy. Your on-the-ground experience across the counter and the job site will directly inform product refinement, ensuring the range solves real-world problems for tradespeople and customers alike.
Joining the Product Team, which leads end-to-end Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and New Product Development (NPD), this is a dedicated product-focused role distinct from the Sales Team, though deeply commercial in nature. You will take full ownership of the Product Database, resolve technical hurdles across Sales, Marketing and Supply Chain, and use AI and analytics to identify product gaps, warranty trends and growth opportunities. This is a genuine pathway into product management for a trade professional ready to influence the products they once sold, with knowledge of the plumbing and water filtration market being essential to success in the role. The role is based in Melrose Park.
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the refinement and optimisation of the Product Database, ensuring it remains a dynamic, high-value asset for cross-functional teams.
- Provide decisive, pragmatic problem-solving for technical inquiries impacting Sales, Marketing and Supply Chain.
- Implement AI-assisted tools to identify commercial trends and product performance insights that improve market positioning.
- Execute daily maintenance of master data for all active SKUs, ensuring weights, dimensions, technical specifications and pricing remain synchronised.
- Act as the technical reference point for all things product, providing accurate specs and assets as needed.
- Deliver warranty trend analysis that identifies root causes and reduces product failure rates.
- Identify manual data bottlenecks and propose technical solutions to streamline product management workflows.
- Coordinate projects across diverse departments, gathering and reconciling requirements from Marketing, Supply Chain and Sales.
- Use commercial acumen to make sound, common-sense decisions when technical data is ambiguous.
- Support the broader Product team's PLM and NPD strategies with real-world, trade-informed insight.
Candidate Profile
You are a high-performing plumbing industry professional, likely operating as a Branch Manager or in a similar sales and leadership capacity, with several years of experience and a strong track record of commercial success. You bring genuine market and industry knowledge, having seen first-hand the technical and commercial challenges faced by trade customers on the counter and the job site. You are now looking for a strategic transition into a product-focused role where this expertise can be applied to shape and refine a market-leading product range.
You possess exceptional commercial acumen and the confidence to make decisive, common-sense decisions in complex or ambiguous environments. You are a confident user of Excel, and experience with AI tools is highly desirable, as this role will require you to apply AI and analytics as a commercial tool to identify trends and opportunities. You are comfortable coordinating across diverse departments, gathering and balancing requirements from teams such as Marketing and Supply Chain, and can act as a credible technical reference point across the business.
Most importantly, you demonstrate strong alignment with company values, integrity and a genuine desire for professional growth. You will be at your best in a role that rewards decisive, industry-backed authority and offers a clear, definitive pathway into product management.
Culture & Benefits
This is an established water filtration business with a strong reputation in the trade and plumbing market. The environment is supportive and collaborative, with a strong commercial and product-focused culture, offering the successful candidate a genuine opportunity to influence the products they once sold from the other side of the counter.
- Shape the future - move from the field to a genuine product management pathway
- Drive real impact - influence product strategy, quality and market share
- Apply your expertise - leverage your trade knowledge and AI-driven insight to solve real-world problems
