Job Description

Role Highlights

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Communications Officer to join a socially conscious organisation driving meaningful change through industry collaboration, research and public engagement. The role will suit someone who enjoys variety, thrives across digital channels and wants their work to contribute to a genuine cause.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Director – Marketing and Communications, this Communications Officer will play a central role in developing and delivering communications across a range of programs, projects and initiatives, including industry membership engagement, research partnerships, and government and consumer-facing campaigns. You will manage content and day-to-day activity across digital channels, working closely with management, project teams and external partners to produce high-quality communications collateral.

While the role carries no formal staff management responsibilities, you will work closely with a Communications Coordinator and may provide day-to-day guidance on content and campaign delivery. You will also support effective stakeholder relationships and provide communications and project planning support, including media monitoring, drafting media materials, brand management and broader corporate communications activities. This is a great opportunity for a communications generalist to build broad experience across social media, content, events and stakeholder engagement within a purpose-driven organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver communications activities across multiple programs, projects and initiatives, working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Support the growth and management of digital media channels, including planning, creating and reporting on content across social media, website and eDMs.
  • Support effective relationships with members, research leads, partners and other key stakeholders through projects and communications opportunities.
  • Assist senior communications leads with media enquiries and responses, including drafting media releases and identifying proactive media opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality communications collateral, including reports, promotional material, case studies and video content.
  • Support communications for key national and international awareness initiatives and events.
  • Support communications, stakeholder engagement and branding for organisation-specific events.
  • Administrate the Marketing and Communications team planning tools.
  • Maintain and support proper use of corporate branding, style and imagery across communications materials.
  • Contribute to planning and monitoring of communications budgets and resources.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of key communications activities.

Candidate Profile

You are a strong communicator with demonstrated experience delivering effective communications across a range of platforms and audiences, and a proven ability to work well with internal and external stakeholders. You bring experience with website content management systems such as WordPress and digital measurement tools such as Google Analytics, along with a working understanding of UX and accessibility best practice. You are confident managing organisational social media across channels such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, including the use of scheduling or reporting tools, and you have experience with graphic design tools such as Canva, InDesign or Photoshop.

Experience with other digital communications platforms such as MailChimp, EventBrite or HubSpot will be highly regarded, as will a tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, marketing or a related discipline, with around three years of relevant experience (or equivalent demonstrated experience). Exposure to the not-for-profit, research, sustainability, food systems, agriculture or government sectors would also be well regarded, though is not essential.

Most importantly, you bring a genuine commitment to the cause, the team and the organisation's values. You work well with moderate direction, show initiative, prioritise tasks effectively, and operate comfortably both independently and as part of a collaborative, supportive team. You are reliable, organised and adaptable to shifting priorities, and you build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders with tact and diplomacy.

Company, Culture & Benefits

This is a values-led organisation focused on creating meaningful, positive impact through purpose, integrity, collaboration and performance. You will join a supportive and collaborative team culture where your communications skills will directly contribute to a cause that makes a genuine difference.

  • Purposeful work - contribute to an organisation making a genuine, positive impact
  • Varied role - build broad experience across digital, content, media and events
  • Supportive team - work within a collaborative, values-driven culture
