Role Highlights
Reporting to the Head of Finance – Corporate & Tax Services, the Group Tax Manager will lead ASC’s Group Taxation Function, overseeing tax outcomes across compliance, governance, strategic advisory and stakeholder management. Leading a team of four, this is a broad senior tax role with significant exposure across the organisation. You will work closely with senior stakeholders on major contracts, transactions and business decisions, while continuing to strengthen ASC’s tax governance and risk management framework. This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity providing maternity leave cover.
Organisation
ASC Pty Ltd has been selected as the Australian Government’s Sovereign Submarine Partner to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines. The announcement recognises ASC’s more than 35 years of experience and expertise as the original builder and ongoing sustainer of the Collins Class submarine fleet. ASC is a Government Business Enterprise operating in an environment that is both complex and meaningful. As Australia’s submarine company, ASC supports the Royal Australian Navy to protect Australia’s national security and bring its submariners home safely. Working at ASC offers the opportunity to contribute to work of national significance, while being part of an organisation with a strong focus on flexibility, employee wellbeing and professional development.
Responsibilities
• Lead and manage taxation compliance activities across Australia and the foreign jurisdictions in which ASC operates
• Provide timely and practical tax advice on corporate transactions, functions, policies and compliance
• Review major contracts, significant transactions and business decisions for tax implications and risk
• Oversee and continue to strengthen ASC’s Tax Risk Management and Governance Framework
• Manage relationships with the Australian Taxation Office, overseas tax authorities, external tax advisors and external auditors
• Partner with senior stakeholders across Finance, Commercial and the broader organisation to support commercial decision making
• Build tax knowledge and awareness across the organisation, helping stakeholders understand the tax implications of their activities
• Provide taxation reporting and updates to senior management and input into Board papers where required
• Support the financial accounting team on tax matters and tax payment forecasting

Candidate Profile
You will likely be an experienced corporate tax professional who is comfortable operating across both technical and commercial matters. You may have developed your career within a large corporate environment, professional services, or a combination of both. You don’t necessarily need to have worked in an organisation exactly like ASC. More important will be your ability to navigate complexity, provide sound and pragmatic tax advice, and build credibility with stakeholders across the business.
Ideally, your experience will include a combination of:
• Strong corporate tax experience and a sound understanding of Australian taxation law
• Exposure to areas such as income tax, GST, FBT and employment taxes
• International tax exposure, which may include permanent establishments, transfer pricing or expatriate taxation
• Tax governance, risk management and internal controls
• Advising on contracts, transactions or commercial decisions
• Working with senior stakeholders and translating complex tax matters into clear, practical advice
• Managing relationships with Revenue Offices, external tax advisors or auditors
• Exposure to complex, project or contract-based environments
• ERP systems and/or tax technology
• Leading, coaching or developing others
Tertiary qualifications in Commerce or Accounting and relevant professional membership will be important for the role. Membership of the Tax Institute would also be highly regarded.
