Role Overview
Reporting into the Group Finance Operations Manager, this Senior Financial Accountant will be responsible for owning the full P&L and month-end process for one of their largest entities. With over 3,000 SKUs and products on hand, this role will be mandated to bring efficiency, accuracy and confidence to the business when it comes to systems, processes and month-end results.
You will own the preparation of month-end reporting and financial reporting for this business unit and allocated ERP systems. On a monthly basis, you will drive month-end close, complete Balance sheet reconciliations, accurate journal entries and provide analysis and commentary on your business unit’s monthly results.
Your technical accounting knowledge will ensure correct treatment according to accounting standards and compliance with SOX, as well as ensure timely and accurate delivery of all reporting. This role will give you the opportunity to continue to develop your business partnering skills as you interact with a range of stakeholders across the company as the subject matter expert for this unit.
Responsibilities
- Lead and take ownership of month-end deliverables
- Key contact for queries, resolutions and sign-off.
- Lead SOX compliance
- Effectively lead a team of Financial Accountants
- The accurate and timely preparation and processing of general journal entries for multiple business units
- Delivery of inventory variance analysis and the storytelling to the leadership team across the business
- Preparation on monthly financial accounts for the New Zealand business
- Reconciling P&L and balance sheet accounts with effective supporting documentation
- Review expense line items and ensuring they are properly accrued and coded
- Analysis and commentary on expenses and legal entity performance
- Support the business in the execution of the annual audits and external reporting obligations
- Supporting Finance team members with ad hoc projects
- Work with Finance Managers to ensure adequate and relevant financial information is available to drive sales and efficiencies
- Ensure correct coding of invoices to the general ledger and identify areas where accuracy and efficiency can be improved.
Candidate Profile
You are highly energetic and proactive in your thinking. You are CPA, CA or CIMA qualified and have a passion for accuracy, detail and efficiency. Ideally coming out of a large blue-chip organisation like retail or FMCG. You will have exposure to a large inventory-based business with a strong understanding of a large P&L and high volume-based SKU environment. You will have exposure to a complex multisystem environment – ideally experience with Pronto and Great Plains. With exceptional communication skills that you leverage in shaping positive working relationships, you are flexible in working through ambiguity in a fast-paced environment. A passion for continuous improvement and taking things to the next level is at the core of who you are. Experience with New Zealand entities is highly regarded.
