Role Overview / Description
Reporting to an entrepreneurial and sector experienced CEO and working closely with an outstanding ELT, this Head of Finance will have full autonomy to lead and drive the finance function to support the ambitious growth objectives. The Head of Finance has primary day-to-day responsibility for all facets of a true strategic finance leader including Financial Stewardship, Financial Operations, Strategic Finance as well as being a Catalyst to support growth. The key success factor for this candidate will be their ability to meet the immediate and critical requirement for financial, analytical and decision support needs of the ELT. The business leaders are highly numerate and analytical, and they will truly rely on this Head of Finance for navigation and guidance. The Head of Finance needs to be hands on, particularly with all aspects of FP&A including budgeting, forecasting, board reporting and financial stewardship.
The Head of Finance will bring the discipline, process, and leadership capability that is developed from larger organisation. In addition, a rare skill to have, the candidate will also need to be hands on, agile and creative enough to support business needs to the best of their ability given the resources and time available to them. Leadership agility is absolutely critical for success in this role. Demonstrated ability to duck down into the weeds and then come up above the parapet to make strategic decisions with evidence and data will be critical. Given the start-up to scale up environment, the candidate needs to be exceptional at creating structure in a world of noise and fast pace. Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting, Compliance & Governance: Including overseeing compliance activities, financial controls, and accurate reporting and audits
- People Leadership: Coach and mentor a small and highly capable team, providing a platform for skills and capability development
- Executive Leadership: Partner with the CEO, Executive Team and Board in designing short- and long-term strategy
- FP&A: Implement robust and reliable budgeting, forecasting and planning systems and processes
- Strategic Decision Support: Provide strategic leadership through modelling, insights and risk and opportunity analysis
- Change Leadership: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and demonstrate executive influence to ensure efficiencies are realised
Candidate Profile
You are a CA/CPA Finance leader with significant experience across FP&A, Financial Control and commercial finance leadership. With deep experience in the insurance sector, you are currently in a Senior Finance position with aspirations to step into your first CFO role. You have significant experience working with executive leadership teams and are hands on and agile in nature. A proven track record under in fast paced or scale up businesses will be highly valued but not a must. You hold a leadership style that will see you thrive in a fast paced and agile environment. Either way, you will bring to the role strong commercial acumen, high energy, vision for growth, and a passion for sound governance.
