Job Description
Location: North Sydney
Salary Package: $220k + Super + Bonus
Role Highlights: CFO reporting line; board and private equity exposure; two direct reports; hands-on commercial modelling and a 50% FP&A remit.
Role Overview
Reporting to the CFO, you will lead a broad mandate across 3 areas: Investment modelling, FP&A and Commercial Finance. You will bring commercial insight and financial discipline to a growing, private equity-backed business operating across asset leasing, maintenance and major structural transactions. You will review and refine existing investment models, evaluate sale and leaseback and build-to-lease opportunities, and explain the returns and strategic rationale from both the investor’s and the business’s perspective. This is a hands-on role requiring independent judgement and a clear understanding of when to escalate decisions to the executive team.
FP&A represents half of your remit. You will translate budgets, forecasts and monthly results into a clear business story, strengthen board papers and help site supervisors and managers understand how operational performance flows through to the numbers. Leading two strong direct reports, you will work across the executive and commercial teams, engage directly with private equity analysts and bring confidence to deal conversations when the C-suite is not in the room.
Responsibilities
- Review, refine and govern the Group corporate and investment models, including pricing, forecasting, scenario analysis, valuations, IRR, NPV and investor returns.
- Assess major sale and leaseback and build-to-lease opportunities, articulating commercial assumptions, risks and returns from both sides of the transaction.
- Drive budgeting, forecasting and monthly performance analysis, delivering clear commentary and stronger board papers that connect financial results to operational performance.
- Build financial understanding at site, supervisor and manager level through practical business partnering and accessible insights.
- Work directly with private equity analysts, sharing models and explaining deal rationale while maintaining discretion and using the executive team as the first point of escalation.
- Develop robust capital investment processes, strengthen model governance and manage key financial assumptions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead and develop two direct reports; influence commercial stakeholders and lead deal discussions when required.
- Deliver meaningful performance metrics, industry benchmarking and ESG insights aligned with reporting requirements.
- Improve finance processes and systems, and help develop a rigorous framework for using AI in FP&A, modelling and financial storytelling.
Candidate Profile
You bring corporate finance or FP&A experience, ideally with at least five years in a complex business environment. Experience in a capital-intensive business, private equity stakeholder engagement and stakeholder management experience are essential. You are ready to step into broader responsibility, with a strong foundation and the appetite to grow rather than a need for a fully formed role.
Technically strong and highly hands-on, you can independently interrogate existing deal models, test assumptions and explain IRR, investor returns, valuations and capital optimisation. Advanced Excel skills are essential, alongside the ability to translate complex analysis into a persuasive commercial story for executives, the board and investors. You combine analytical depth with practical FP&A capability and sound escalation judgement.
You are a humble, engaging leader with high emotional intelligence, boardroom presence and the ability to connect with frontline teams. You bring accountability, discretion and sound judgement to investor relationships while staying aligned with the business and its executive team.
Culture & Benefits
Join a small, close-knit North Sydney office where ideas are welcomed and you can work directly with executive stakeholders. The culture combines accountability for delivery with flexibility around work-life balance. You will have opportunities to present your own work to the board, build your leadership capability and contribute to a business that prioritises safety, reliability, continuous improvement and collaboration.
- Be rewarded: $220k + super + bonus.
- Grow your scope: lead two strong direct reports, influence investment decisions and develop through board exposure.
- Connect and contribute: office days Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, with flexibility around delivery and work-life balance.
