Role Overview

In this role, you will be responsible for defining and governing Azure architecture across enterprise platforms, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, cost effective and future ready. On a day to day basis, you will work closely with engineering, security and delivery teams to design solutions for cloud migrations, platform modernisation and new digital initiatives.

You will play a key role in setting cloud standards, guiding technical decision making and ensuring Azure environments support long term business objectives. Your input will directly influence delivery quality, platform resilience and cloud maturity across the organisation.

As a senior architectural authority, you will also be involved early in initiative discovery and planning, helping shape solution options, assess risk and guide investment decisions. You will provide clarity in complex environments, balancing technical best practice with commercial realities to ensure architectures are practical, sustainable and aligned to broader technology road maps.

Responsibilities

• Design and govern Azure architectures across infrastructure, platform and application layers
• Define and maintain cloud reference architectures, landing zones and design standards
• Lead architecture for cloud migrations, modernisation programs and new Azure builds
• Ensure solutions meet security, resilience, performance and cost optimisation principles
• Design hybrid connectivity including VPN, ExpressRoute and on premises integration
• Partner closely with cyber security teams to embed security by design and Zero Trust principles
• Act as the technical authority reviewing and approving solution designs and approaches
• Provide hands on guidance and mentorship to engineering and DevOps teams
• Promote infrastructure as code and automation using modern tooling and practices
• Communicate architectural decisions clearly to both technical and non technical stakeholders

Candidate Profile

You are an experienced Azure Architect with a strong background designing and governing enterprise scale cloud platforms. You bring deep technical knowledge of Azure services, strong architectural judgement and the ability to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery requirements.

You are confident engaging with senior stakeholders, translating business needs into robust technical solutions and guiding teams through complex design decisions. Experience working in regulated or large enterprise environments will be highly regarded, as will exposure to large scale cloud transformation programs.

In addition, you are someone who enjoys setting direction and lifting capability across teams. You are comfortable acting as a mentor and trusted advisor, influencing without authority and driving consistency through clear standards and pragmatic guidance. Your communication style allows you to simplify complex concepts and build credibility quickly with both technical and non technical audiences.
