Role Highlights:

This is a rare opportunity for a technically strong Tax Lead to tackle a multi-year compliance backlog and drive key tax projects in a fast-paced, high-growth renewable energy environment.

You will partner closely with the Head of Tax and external advisors to support tax consolidated group formation and indirect tax initiatives, navigating complex historical data and exercising sound commercial judgment. The role offers autonomy, real impact, and the chance to implement process improvements while shaping the future of the tax function

Role Overview

You will have real autonomy to make decisions and implement solutions immediately, working in a collaborative environment where tackling complex problems with imperfect data delivers tangible strategic impact.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare amended tax returns and resolve a multi-year filing backlog.
  • Act as the primary liaison with external advisors, responding to queries and information requests.
  • Analyse historical complex tax issues, such as borrowing costs treatment across debt facilities.
  • Navigate imperfect data sets, apply risk-based judgment, and extract actionable insights.
  • Support indirect tax compliance (GST/BAS) alongside outsourced providers.
  • Coordinate information flow to external advisors for consolidated group calculations
  • Review historical tax returns, validate prior determinations, and collaborate with legal on unit cost base analysis.
  • Lead indirect tax project work for GST consolidated group formation.
  • Implement process improvements to prepare the tax function for ATO.

Candidate Profile

  • Technically strong tax professional with 8+ years post-practice corporate tax experience.
  • Expertise in direct tax: corporate tax, income tax compliance, and technical interpretation.
  • Proven ability to draft ATO-ready position papers supporting complex tax decisions.
  • Experience in M&A transactional tax.
  • Background in capital-intensive or infrastructure industries is highly valued
  • Collaborative approach aligned with a hands-off, supportive leadership style.
