Job Description
Location: Sydney CBD
Salary: $240,000–$260,000 Package + Bonus
Role Benefit: Take ownership of a blank canvas APAC financial control function inside a fast-growing, PE-backed business at a pivotal point in its growth story; Lead controls, governance and transformation across a complex, multi-country regional structure with direct access to a high-calibre CFO; For a driven FC with CFO ambitions, this is the role that makes your career.
The Opportunity
This is not a role for someone looking to maintain a system that already works. It is a role for someone who sees an imperfect environment and gets energised by it.
A fast-growing, PE-backed Australian FMCG business with a significant regional footprint is investing heavily in its APAC finance function ahead of a well-funded growth phase. With a portfolio of premium consumer brands and strong institutional backing, the business has a clear appetite for expansion and the capital to fund it. The mandate is clear, build a world-class regional finance function from the ground up, set the standard for controls and governance across the region, and grow with the business as it scales into new markets.
The incoming FC will report directly to the CFO, a commercially sharp and development-focused leader who wants a trusted right hand, not an order taker. More than half of this role will see you lead transformation and project work around accounting, reporting and controls. This will expand into commercial modelling, expansion initiatives, process overhaul, and cross-functional projects that sit well beyond the traditional FC remit. This is not a BAU role with a transformation component bolted on. It is a transformation role with a strong controls foundation underneath it.
For the right candidate, this is the role that makes a career. High performers who have come through environments like this have gone on to CFO appointments, inside the business or externally, within 3 to 5 years. If you are ready to back yourself in a blank canvas environment where your decisions carry real weight, this is the opportunity you have been waiting for.
The Role
Reporting to the CFO, you will take ownership of the financial control function across the region. Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the APAC balance sheet, including FD accountability, insights, process ownership, and management reporting
- Leading the statutory compliance function across the region, covering statutory accounts and tax across multiple jurisdictions
- Owning the cash management and dividend and cash flow compliance processes across the region
- Working with country finance leaders across the region on a dotted-line basis to lift the standard of financial control and process maturity across each market
- Supporting the CFO on commercial modelling and financial projects, including expansion-related activity
- Leading finance transformation projects across the region, including process standardisation, controls uplift, and capability development
- Building a prioritisation framework that moves the finance function from reactive to structured and proactive
About You
You are a CA-qualified Finance Manager or Controller with genuine depth in financial control, someone who has been through the weeds, not just managed from above. You can walk into a room with auditors or tax advisers and hold your ground. You thrive in environments that are not yet fully formed, and you have the pragmatism to make decisions and drive progress even when the information is imperfect.
You are not looking for a well-defined role with clear boundaries. You are looking for a platform, somewhere you can build something, prove something, and accelerate toward the next level of your career. You understand that the path to CFO runs through roles like this one.
