Job Description
Location: Ingleburn, Southwest Sydney
Salary Package: $95k - $100k + Super + Bonus
Role Highlights: This is not a lab-only role. You will own the testing function, walk the production floor to pull your own samples, and sit alongside the technical team on improvement projects. If you want more in your career than a lab bench and a results sheet, here it is.
Role Overview:
You are the analytical specialist for a busy food manufacturing site. The testing schedule is yours - raw materials, work in progress, finished goods - along with the equipment, the calibrations and the external lab relationships.
You will work closely with Quality, R&D and Operations, but you run this function. Reporting to the Head of Quality, you have direct access to technical leaders and the visibility that comes with being the only person on site doing what you do.
The previous person was here 10+ years. That tells you something about the culture. It also means this function is ready to be taken further - there are CI projects underway, a raw materials data program to contribute to, and room to shape what this role becomes.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain testing regimes for raw materials, WIP and finished goods in line with SQF, HACCP and customer specifications
- Collect samples from the production floor; liaise directly with operations and technical teams
- Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot on-site analytical equipment including NIR spectroscopy
- Manage external laboratory relationships and ensure samples are dispatched on schedule
- Report on results; recommend formulation or process changes where data supports it
- Contribute to CI projects and continuous improvement initiatives across quality and production
- Support internal and external audits; act as site SME for testing methods and equipment
Candidate Profile:
You are someone who gets curious when the data looks wrong, you don't just flag it, you go and find out why. You are comfortable in a lab and equally comfortable walking out to production, adjusting how you communicate depending on who is in front of you. You have worked in a complex food manufacturing environment, not a large corporate where there's a team for everything, and you know what it means to own something without a lot of handholding.
To be considered, you will need:
- 3 years hands-on laboratory experience in food related manufacturing environment
- Wet and dry chemistry experience, including calibration
- Working knowledge of SQF, HACCP and food safety systems
- Degree in Chemistry, Food Science or a related field
- The ability to work autonomously and manage your own priorities without close supervision
You will need both Lab and Manufacturing exposure.
Culture & Benefits:
You will be joining a long-tenured team, a site that moves fast, and has a genuine appetite for improvements, this is a business that values people who take ownership and stay curious.
- Permanent full-time opportunity with ongoing career development
- A function to genuinely own and evolve - not inherit a static role
- Immediate involvement in live CI and raw materials projects
- Close working relationships with R&D, Quality and Operations leaders
- Flexible day shift: Monday to Friday, hours flexible
- Ingleburn manufacturing site. 5 days on-site
- Salary range: $95k - $100k + Super + Bonus.
