Job Description

Role: Senior D365 Automation Test Engineer

Location: Sydney CBD, NSW
Salary Package: Competitive Salary on Offer
Role Highlights: Shape where automation adds value, choose the correct engineering trade-offs and establish a framework the internal team can sustain.

Role Overview

Automating every screen is not the measure of success here. An established organisation needs a senior engineer to determine which Dynamics 365 CRM changes carry the greatest consequence, then create dependable ways to detect problems early. Over a six-month engagement, you will make decisions about test architecture and priority, turning a predominantly manual starting point into a focused body of evidence that the delivery team can trust.

This is a coding role with room for technical judgement. You will move between Playwright and TypeScript, Dataverse, model-driven interfaces, REST services and selected C#/.NET components, choosing the most useful level of assurance for the problem. The Agile setting gives you direct contact with the CRM engineer, a testing colleague and business users. At times, helping verify an urgent change manually will be more valuable than writing another automated check.

The way you organise the work will matter as much as the checks themselves. Make outcomes easy to interpret in Azure DevOps, establish workable approaches to identities and test data, and ensure colleagues understand the decisions behind the code. The brief favours a useful, maintainable result inside the contract window over an ambitious suite that nobody can confidently operate.

Responsibilities

  • Rank D365 CRM risks by business impact and how often processes change.
  • Pick UI, API or unit coverage to suit each material failure risk.
  • Adapt Microsoft Power Platform Playwright samples into reusable code.
  • Develop stable TypeScript journeys through model-driven screens.
  • Manage identities, environments and test data across executions.
  • Check Dataverse and REST endpoints independently of browser flows.
  • Unit test selected C#/.NET plugins and custom APIs.
  • Publish CI/CD test signals and failure diagnostics via Azure DevOps.
  • Distinguish product defects from faulty scripts or test conditions.
  • Explain design choices to the team and assist with urgent manual checks.

Candidate Profile

Your expertise is rooted in Dynamics 365 CRM rather than automation tooling alone. You understand model-driven apps, Dataverse, security permissions and the environmental behaviours that can mislead a test. You have personally designed an automated test codebase where little existed, can produce reliable Playwright checks in TypeScript or JavaScript, and bring strong C#/.NET skills for exercising plugins and custom APIs. Git, Azure DevOps and pipeline execution are part of your hands-on delivery experience.

You can defend your engineering decisions: why a particular risk deserves coverage, why a test belongs below the browser, how you traced an inconsistent outcome and what you would postpone under a fixed deadline. You are comfortable discussing trade-offs with developers, test specialists and business representatives, and can turn technical findings into information others can act on.

You operate independently without treating the solution as your personal property. The team needs someone who listens, offers a clear recommendation, takes responsibility for implementation and shares knowledge without unnecessary complexity. Familiarity with the Microsoft Power Platform Playwright samples, relevant Microsoft certification or previous exposure to regulated organisations would be helpful, but none of those extras is a prerequisite.

Company, Culture & Benefits

The organisation has an established CRM platform and a small team responsible for its ongoing evolution. You will have direct access to the people making application and delivery decisions, with the latitude to recommend sound engineering choices rather than simply complete a prescribed checklist.

  • Defined 6 month assignment with genuine architectural discretion
  • Hybrid arrangements for a Sydney CBD-based engagement
  • Direct collaboration with CRM development and testing colleagues
